CalFairEquity.org Privacy Notice

Last updated: October 2025

1. Who We Are

CalFairEquity.org (“we,” “our,” or “us”) is an independent, public-interest initiative that helps Californians understand and verify potential rights to surplus or “excess proceeds” following a property sale. We are not a government agency or law firm.

2. Information We Collect

We only collect the basic details you voluntarily provide through our website forms, including:

  • Name
  • Email address
  • Phone number
  • Property address or case-related details
  • Relationship to the former property owner

We do not collect or request financial account numbers, Social Security numbers, or other sensitive personal identifiers.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information you provide solely to:

  • Verify potential eligibility for remaining equity funds
  • Communicate with you regarding your verification status
  • Refer your verified case to a licensed California attorney, if applicable
  • Maintain secure internal records as required by law
  • We do not sell or share your personal information with marketers, data brokers, or unrelated third parties.

4. How We Share Information

We may share your information only in these limited cases:

  • With licensed California attorneys in our network, after you are verified, for lawful claim filing; or
  • As required by law, court order, or authorized government request.
  • All referrals are made solely for informational and legal-coordination purposes. CalFairEquity.org does not receive compensation based on attorney outcomes.

5. Your Rights Under California Law

As a California resident, you have the right to:

  • Know what categories of personal information we collect, use, and disclose
  • Request deletion of your personal information
  • Correct inaccurate information
  • Opt out of the sale or sharing of personal data (we do not sell or share)
  • Not be discriminated against for exercising these rights

To submit a privacy request, contact us at: support@calfairequity.org

We will verify your identity before processing your request and respond within the time required by California law.

6. Data Retention

We retain your information only as long as necessary to complete verification and coordinate with legal representatives — generally no longer than 24 months, unless required for recordkeeping or legal compliance.

7. Security

We take reasonable administrative and technical measures to safeguard your information from unauthorized access, use, or disclosure.

8. Changes to This Notice

We may update this Privacy Notice periodically. Any changes will be reflected here with a revised “Last updated” date.

Notice: CalFairEquity.org is an independent public-interest initiative focused on educating Californians about post-foreclosure equity recovery and available legal resources. We connect verified claimants with licensed California attorneys for lawful recovery of funds. We are not a government agency or law firm, never charge fees, and are not compensated based on attorney outcomes. Information on this site is provided for educational purposes only and should not be taken as legal advice.
